City of Lethbridge warns about parking ticket scam

The City of Lethbridge is warning residents about what it says is a scam featuring text messages about unpaid parking tickets

The City of Lethbridge wants residents to know about a texting scam involving unpaid parking tickets.

The City posted a note on its social media account and website Friday about a scam circulating where users receive a text message claiming they an unpaid parking infraction.

They said there have been multiple reports of users receiving the message which says, “Alberta Parking Notice”, before asking for your credit card details.

“The City of Lethbridge does not reach out via text message or phone call regarding parking infractions,” they said.

Parking tickets for the City of Lethbridge can be paid online or in person via debit or credit card during regular business hours at the Park and Ride office at 705, Fifth Avenue South.

Cash payments are accepted at city hall cashiers on the first floor.

Anyone concerned that they may have been victimized can call 311 to have details verified.

The city is also partnering with the police department to introduce a cyber safety resource called the Online Safety Toolkit, which it describes as “a one-stop shop for information about technology, social media, cyberbullying and cybersecurity that applies to people of all ages.”
