Calgary parents looking for activities to keep their children busy during the Alberta teachers’ strike have some options with the City of Calgary and its partners. Officials say day camps, creative workshops and other leisure activities have all been rolled out to keep kids busy and learning in an informal environment. The City of Calgary says it also expanded its recreation programming and public swim times as of Monday. Additional swim times are posted on the city’s website and the Calgary’s Rec Adventures Day Camps are available for students aged five to 12 years old. Registration is available online. YMCA Calgary has also opened three-hour-long registered programs for children aged six to nine years old, which includes lunch supervision if parents book both morning and afternoon sessions. Youth aged 10 to 17 years old can also take advantage of drop-in access between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at all six Calgary YMCA locations. Some of the other Calgary day camps include visits to Heritage Park, the Telus Spark Science Centre, the Confluence Historic Site, the Hangar Flight Museum as well as activities at all Calgary Public Library locations.
