A private island estate off B.C.’s Sunshine Coast has sold for $13 million, setting a record for a residential sale in the area. Turnagain Island, which measures at roughly 93 acres, is located in Secret Cove off Halfmoon Bay. Although the property sold for nearly $2 million less than the original list price, Sotheby’s International Realty said, in a news release, that the sale “marks a landmark achievement for British Columbia’s luxury real estate market.” The island had been owned by the same family for 60 years, and the property has two separate homes—a waterfront residence with three bedrooms and a four-bedroom Craftsman style abode further inland. It boasts “pristine forests, a rugged coastline, and breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean” and “can be traversed along an enchanting network of moss-lined, single-track roads leading to dozens of viewpoints,” according to Sotheby’s International Realty. There are multiple boathouses and docks on the island, and it is connected to the municipal water supply. It also has a reservoir, a generator and submarine hydro power. “Turnagain Island offers a rare combination of privacy and natural beauty, balanced by extensive infrastructure and convenient access to the vibrant community of Halfmoon Bay and nearby amenities of Sechelt,” said Gina Stockwell, listing agent with Sotheby’s International Realty. “The sale of Turnagain Island highlights underlying market confidence in the long-term value of top-tier recreational property in B.C.” The buyer is from the Vancouver area.
