Charges laid against man shot by police at Dalhousie LRT station

The man shot by a police officer at a northwest Calgary LRT station earlier this week has now been charged.

Police were responding to a report of “a man with a knife acting aggressively toward a peace officer” in the Dalhousie station parking lot around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say “an altercation occurred” after they arrived and located the man.

An officer opened fire, “striking the man.”

In the aftermath, the man was taken to hospital.

Police say his condition was considered “serious but stable” at that point.

No officers or bystanders were hurt.

On Thursday, it was announced 23-year-old Cody Duquette faces a number of charges, including:

• assaulting a peace officer with a weapon (x3);
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
• failure to comply with a release order (x2).

Duquette is currently scheduled to appear in court Friday.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was called in the aftermath of Tuesday’s officer-involved shooting.

ASIRT, the province’s police watchdog, investigates when officers’ actions might have caused “serious injury or death.”

ASIRT also investigates when “serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct” are made.
