Charges laid against Calgary man after seizure of multiple firearms: police

A Calgary man is facing several criminal charges after a firearms seizure by police.

Police say the suspect “was arrested on outstanding warrants after being seen with prohibited weapons on social media.”

Police say a search warrant executed in the 2000 block of Home Road N.W. led to several firearms being seized.

Firearms police say were seized in connection with the March 5 arrest and search warrant include:

• a loaded GSG-16 .22-calibre rifle;
• a Savage Axis .308-calibre rifle (confirmed to be stolen);
• a Stevens Model 320 sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun;
• a 1897 12-gauge shotgun;
• a loaded Glock 30 .45-calibre handgun.

Police say they also seized body armour, an operational conducted energy device and 3D-printed “brass” knuckles.

Jesse C. Bain, 37, is charged with:

• breaching a firearms prohibition order (x2);
• unsafe storage of a firearm;
• unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle;
• possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition;
• possession of a firearm obtained by crime;
• possession of firearm with a defaced serial number; and
• unlawful possession of body armour.

Bain is next scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Police say Bain “is believed to have connections to organized crime.”

“Our officers acted quickly to remove a significant threat from the community,” Staff Sgt. Matt Gow said Monday in a news release.

“Our priority is always to keep Calgarians safe, and thanks to the collaboration and thorough police work from numerous areas across the service, we’re grateful this situation was resolved safely.”

Meanwhile, police say the investigation continues.
