Calgary woman went to buy a kayak, ended up winning $1M on scratch lotto ticket

A Calgary woman who won $1 million on a scratch-and-win lottery ticket says she was shopping for a kayak when she purchased the ticket on a whim at the cash register.

Pam Millage and her daughter went to London Drugs to buy a kayak that had gone on sale, and decided to get a $10 In the Money Multiplier ticket too.

“If we hadn’t bought the kayak, I never would have bought the ticket at the checkout, and I never would have won,” Millage said in a Tuesday news release.

“There were many little things that lined up for this to happen,” she said. “Well—a million, probably.”

Millage says she was confused when she first scratched the ticket.

“I had to double-check to be sure I was seeing it right.”

The Calgary mom says the first people she told about her win were her kids.

“I called and made them guess how much I’d won.”

While she hasn’t yet figured out all her plans for her winnings, one thing Millage may do is help her son out with his car that just died.

“My husband and I are thinking about a trip overseas to see one of our kids as well,” she added.
