Calgary weather: Warm start to the week ahead of snow and a high of 0 C by Thursday

Though Calgary saw a foggy start to the day on Monday, sun is expected Tuesday and Wednesday. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch

Some light precipitation fell over the Calgary area early Monday, and there will be a chance of light and scattered showers later in the day.

The wind was quite mild, which contributed to dense fog forming overnight leaving some portions of southern Alberta with near-zero visibility.

A yellow-level fog advisory was issued from Environment and Climate Change Canada for Calgary and surrounding communities, with the weather agency saying “travel will be hazardous in some locations. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic.”

Temperatures will be slightly above average in Calgary for the next couple of days, reaching 15 C on Monday and 13 C on Tuesday.

A brief period of instability will kick off on Wednesday with rain transitioning to snow and temperatures falling to just 0 C for a high on Thursday.

This will be one of those systems that make it difficult to pinpoint the areas with the greatest accumulations, but at this point it seems likely Calgary will see between two to four centimetres of total accumulation.

Similar to the snow from this weekend, that precipitation and cooldown will be short-lived, with daytime highs returning to double digits by Saturday.
