Calgary Transit pulls 19 shuttle buses from service as precaution after fire

A Calgary Transit bus caught fire on Dec. 12, 2025, while on Nose Hill Drive N.W. EMS took an adult patient to hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

Calgary Transit has pulled 19 shuttle buses from service while it continues to investigate the cause of a December fire on a shuttle bus.

The city confirmed early Wednesday in a statement to CTV News that the shuttle buses of the same model service were removed from service as a precautionary measure.

“This is a standard safety step to ensure there are no risks to staff and the public while we complete the investigation,” the city said. “We will return the shuttles to service once we confirm them to be safe.”

One adult was transported to hospital on Dec. 12 when a shuttle bus caught fire around 8 a.m. just east of Nose Hill Drive.

The Calgary Fire Department said the driver of the vehicle was the only one on board and told responding crews they had attempted to put out the fire with an extinguisher.

“Fire crews used a hose line and on-board water from the fire engine and a tender truck to extinguish the fire,” said Alex Kwan, CFD public information officer, in a statement.

EMS said the victim was in non-life-threatening condition.

The city said that once the other 19 shuttles have been confirmed to be safe, they will be returned to service.

“In the meantime, we’ve deployed replacement shuttles and adjusted schedules to minimize service impacts to riders.”

Calgary Transit posted on social media that C Trains, buses and On Demand will be operating on Sunday schedules on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.
