Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas has showered with CJAY92’s Tyler Middleton, following through on a promise he made to the radio host last month. Middleton asked Farkas to shower with him in a PSA-style video to promote water conservation as city crews worked to fix the deteriorating Bearspaw South feeder main – a move that prompted local water restrictions. Farkas agreed to shower with Middleton – but only if Calgary went seven days in a row in the “green zone” – meaning water was either at or under the 500-million-litre-a-day target for total usage. As it turns out, Calgarians were indeed able to keep water use in the green for a week before work on the problematic pipe finished – thus setting Farkas up for the communal shower. On Tuesday, a shirtless Middleton welcomed Farkas into the warm water of a slender shower at Bell Media’s building in southwest Calgary, the home of both CJAY92 and CTV News. A fully clothed Farkas, wearing a tie with yellow rubber ducks on it, hopped into Middleton’s arms, giving him a hug, before immediately dissolving into laughter. “What the f**k am I doing?” he cried. “It’s so tight in here,” Middleton laughed. “Thank you, Calgary, for being such amazing water heroes,” Farkas said. “Save water, shower with a friend.” “What do we do next time?” Middleton asked. “Next time, the bet is on my terms,” Farkas replied When asked if he thought he’d actually have to follow through with the shower, Farkas admitted he saw it as a “future me problem” when he agreed five weeks ago. “A highlight of being the mayor is doing fun and unusual things. You can’t take yourself too seriously,” he said. “This is definitely a highlight of my job so far.”
