A 63-year-old Wiarton man is facing several charges after police say he threatened people with a machete in Owen Sound late Thursday night. The Owen Sound Police Service says officers responded to a report of a man threatening individuals with a machete near 9th Street West and 1st Avenue West at about 11 p.m. on Sept. 17. Police said officers arrived within a minute of receiving the call, identified the suspect and arrested him without incident. Investigators allege the man was in possession of a machete and a quantity of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest. The accused has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death, assault with a weapon and possession of a Schedule I substance. Police said no injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 10.
