Calgary mayor screening Pacific Crest Trail hiking documentary for charity

Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas' full-length documentary tells the story of his 4,300-kilometre trek on the Pacific Crest Trail, which spans from the United States-Mexico border north to the American border with Canada, running through California, Oregon and Washington.

Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas will screen his documentary next month, with all the money from ticket sales going to charity.

The full-length documentary, called From the Trail to the Chamber, will play at Canyon Meadows Cinema on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m.

The film tells the story of his 4,300-kilometre trek on the Pacific Crest Trail, which spans from the United States-Mexico border north to the American border with Canada, running through California, Oregon and Washington.

It took him 172 days to complete.

Farkas completed the hike after his time as a Calgary councillor, but before becoming mayor.

He battled through blizzards, wildfires, flash floods and frostbite, all in an effort to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters Calgary (BBBS Calgary).

Initially, his fundraising goal for the hike was $50,000, but he passed that early on.

He then decided to up his objective to $125,000.

By the time he was done, Farkas had received more than $200,000 in donations.

Farkas announced the screening on social media on Wednesday, saying all the money raised will go to BBBS Calgary.
