Frontrunners in the Toronto mayoral election, Brad Bradford and Olivia Chow, hit the campaign trail one last time before Torontonians go to the polls on Monday. Both mayoral candidates spoke at separate news conferences on Sunday morning to reiterate their promises on what they will do for Toronto should they be elected as mayor. Speaking to reporters and Torontonians at Polson Street on Sunday, Chow outlined her campaign commitments . Promises like building more affordable homes, introducing a weekly fare cap on the TTC, providing free lunches at schools, property tax breaks for local grocers and cracking down on bad landlords through the expansion of the RentSafe Enforcement program, among others. “The race is neck and neck. Your vote will decide it. If you believe we are a city of people who take care of each other, who stand up for each other, then tomorrow, vote for the city we believe in,” Chow told reporters on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Bradford wrapped up his tour of 25 wards in seven days in Toronto-St.Paul’s on Sunday. He appeared alongside his family and MPP Stephanie Smyth, saying how he has heard from Torontonians about their dreams for the city, their concerns, and their desire for change. On Sunday, Bradford renewed his promises to freeze property taxes during his first year in office, reduce water bills by 25 per cent, improve transit reliability and end slow zones, as well as make Toronto feel safer. “The message I’m hearing from people is that we need change, positive change, in this city. Change that makes us feel safer, change that makes life more affordable, and change that makes it easier to get around the city,” Bradford said. “Now the good news is, we’re on the cusp of change.” Polls exclusively conducted for CP24 and CTV News Toronto have shown that Bradford has narrowed the gap with Chow and that roughly three percentage points are separating them, with 49.8 per cent of decided voters backing Chow and 46.6 per cent supporting Bradford. This marks an effective statistical tie between the frontrunners, as the margin of error for the survey is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
