Calgary man accused of stealing catalytic converters in Lethbridge

A Calgary man is facing charges in connection with the theft and attempted theft of several catalytic converters in Lethbridge.

Police launched an investigation on Monday after reports three vehicles parked in three different locations around the city had been targeted.

Lethbridge police say the converters were stolen from two of the trucks, while the owner of the third vehicle confronted the suspect during the attempted theft.

Police say the suspect ran off, but not before causing “significant damage” to the vehicle and “rendering it inoperable.”

The suspect was later arrested at a convenience store.

Police said a search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of two catalytic converters and several tools.

The accused, a 44-year-old man, is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of mischief under $5,000 and one count of attempted theft.
