Calgary lifts boil water advisory issued for southwest communities

A boil water advisory issued for sections of southwest Calgary has been lifted.

The City of Calgary issued the advisory for the community of Spruce Cliff and areas of Wildwood and Rosscarrock on Friday after a water line was broken.

The incident happened on private property and wasn’t connected to the city’s ongoing work to repair the aging Bearspaw South feeder main.

The incident caused a disruption to the water main supplying drinking water to the impacted areas.

Those living and working in the impacted areas – which included about 500 homes and businesses – had to bring tap water to a rolling boil for a minute before drinking it or using it to cook.

On Monday at 10:30 a.m., the City of Calgary announced the advisory was over.

“If you have used your household or business water in the past 24 hours, it can now be safely consumed without boiling,” the city said.

“If you have not used your household or business water in the past 24 hours, you should flush your system.”

To flush your household or business water system, the city says to turn the bathtub tap on cold for 10 minutes, then turn all other faucets on cold for five minutes.

For businesses without a bathtub or shower, turn on all your faucets on cold for 10 minutes.
