Calgary fire crews battle house fire in Cornerstone

The Calgary Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire in Cornerstone. Mason DePatie reports.

The Calgary Fire Department has responded to a fire in the northeast community of Cornerstone.

The fire broke out at about 6 a.m. on Corner Gate Row N.E.

CTV News spoke with the homeowner, who said he’d just woken up and made himself a cup of tea in his kitchen.

He then went upstairs to drink it and came back down about 20 minutes later to find the room on fire.

The back of the home sustained the most damage, but the fire was contained to the single structure by responding crews.

“There was nine people who were evacuated from that home,” said Alex Kwan, public information officer for the Calgary Fire Department.

The homes on either side were also evacuated, he said.

“The two neighbouring homes have been reoccupied. One had no damage; the other had limited damage to the exterior. Our crews got here pretty quick and was able to knock it down.”

The cause of the fire is not known.
