Bow, Elbow boating advisories lifted; caution on rivers still urged

Calgary officials say river conditions have improved, allowing the boating advisory to be lifted.

After almost two weeks, boating advisories for both the Bow and Elbow rivers have been lifted.

Calgary’s fire department announced the change Wednesday in a release.

The fire department said conditions on both rivers have improved as flow rates have decreased, and “people can resume normal activities.”

But the fire department still urged caution, saying visibility is “still reduced,” and water temperatures “remain cold.”

According to the fire department, river conditions “are unpredictable this time of year and can change without warning.”

The boating advisories were put in place on May 29.
