Banff property tax bills have hit the mail; payments are due end of June

Banff property owners owe the town taxes, with payments due by the end of the month.

More than 2,500 notices hit the mail May 29.

And the town said in a release issued Monday that late penalties kick in after June 30 whether those notices were received or not.

According to the town, the penalty is two per cent per month.

If a notice has not been received, the town advises emailing [e-mail] or calling 403.762.1230 to sort it out.

There are multiple ways to pay, and more information about each is available at banff.ca/taxes.

The municipal portion of property taxes in Banff is up an average of 3.2 per cent for 2026.

The town noted in Monday’s release that amount is “roughly the same as Alberta’s inflation rate.”

The provincial portion of Banff’s property taxes is up 12.7 per cent.

According to the town, “visitor pay parking” keeps property taxes down by more than $6 million each year.

Visitor pay parking is expected to bring in nearly $12 million.

Many programs “will be completely funded by visitor pay parking, rather than from local taxes,” the town said.

Banff residents can park for free in paid parking locations for up to three hours each day, the town said.

The town also said, “Less than one per cent of all parking revenue comes from residents.”
