Ashes surrendered by Chestermere crooks with a conscience in time for mother’s funeral

An urn containing their mothers' ashes was returned to a Chestermere family Friday after it was stolen from their home earlier in the week during a break-and-enter.

An urn stolen from a Chestermere, Alta., home has been returned.

The ashes of Deanna Thompson’s mother were discovered in Calgary on Friday morning outside the McInnis and Holloway funeral home on Memorial Drive N.E.

There was a note asking for their safe return to the family.

According to Joshua Thompson, the ashes were found in an alley by a Good Samaritan who returned them to the funeral home.

Chestermere RCMP confirmed the discovery Friday morning.

The family was bereft at the theft from a home on Cove Road in Chestermere, which took place a little more than a week before the Jan. 17 funeral for Thompson’s mother.

Police continue their search for two men in connection with the theft.
