The international online sales giant Amazon has landed in Lethbridge County. The company on Thursday announced the opening of a new facility in the southern Alberta community, which it says will help more customers enjoy the brand’s signature same-day delivery service. “Amazon is committed to offering the fastest delivery speeds for our customers, and we are constantly innovating and investing in our local network, including in smaller cities and communities,” said Jasmin Begagic, Amazon Canada’s director in a news release. The new operation will be run by an independent business owner who has a contract with Amazon for their own delivery service. All the merchandise coming into the facilities will be sorted at other Amazon delivery stations first, then transported there for final delivery, officials said. The company said the new hub will enable “faster, more reliable delivery for customers.” “My drivers and I are so proud of to be part of the local community,” said Aminat Popoola, owner of RHAY Logistics, the delivery service partner operating out of the Lethbridge County hub. “Our team in Lethbridge and the surrounding area are hearing positive feedback from local customers, who appreciate the dedication of our drivers and our commitment to supporting local businesses and charities.” The Lethbridge County facility is 20,000 square feet in size and is in the Frontier Industrial Park. A similar facility, about 7,500 square feet in size, also opened Thursday in Owen Sound, Ont.
