2 people missing after canoe capsizes on Upper Kananaskis Lake

The search will resume Thursday for a man and a woman who fell out of a canoe at Upper Kananaskis Lake.

Alberta RCMP say two people are missing after a canoe capsized on Upper Kananaskis Lake on Tuesday.

Cochrane RCMP and Kananaskis Emergency Services were called to the lake at 4 p.m.

Investigators say there were four people in the canoe when it capsized.

Bystanders were able to use boats and paddleboards to rescue two of the people – a 30-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman.

RCMP say a 34-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman remain missing.

Emergency crews continued searching for them on Wednesday until high winds caused efforts to be suspended.

Thursday morning, searchers will use a boat equipped with sonar to do a more detailed probe of the lake with divers on standby.

RCMP say the four were part of a larger group of international visitors who were camping in the area.

RCMP confirm no one in the canoe was wearing a life jacket.

Upper Kananaskis Lake is located roughly 120 kilometres southwest of Calgary.
