Southwest Calgary fire forces temporary relocation of residents

An investigation is underway after a minor fire Saturday night in southwest Calgary.

The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Simcoe Road S.W., a Calgary Fire battalion chief said, when crews received reports of smoke coming from a section of a seniors' residence.

Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a rooftop heating unit in one section of the building was smoking.

The unit was extinguished, and the area ventilated of smoke.

The city’s fire department said about a dozen residents were temporarily displaced to other parts of the residence while the smoke was ventilated.

No one was injured.
