Viral video: New ad urges women to stop saying 'sorry'

A new advertisement from Pantene is urging women to stop unnecessarily apologizing for things they shouldn't be sorry for.

The ad follows a group of women going about their day in a variety of different settings, such as the office, home and in the car.

During the one-minute video it quickly becomes apparent that the women keep saying sorry for minor things they shouldn't be apologizing for.

"Why are women always apologizing?" the ad asks the viewer, before cutting to scenarios to illustrate the issue.

"Sorry, can I ask a stupid question?" one woman says during a work meeting.

Another woman apologizes before handing her partner their child as she gets ingredients from the fridge to cook.

The ad urges women to stop being sorry, before cutting to scenes of the same women in the same scenarios, but this time making no apologies.

This time around, the woman in the board room interjects during the meeting and says "I have a question, why don't we go back to the original thing we did?

And the mother hands her partner their child, simply stating "Sorry, not sorry."

The ad is part of Pantene's “Shine Strong” campaign, which addresses issues surrounding female leadership, strength and empowerment. A previous campaign video highlighted the types of negative labels given to women in the workplace compared to men.

People can participate in the campaign by weighing in online by posting their thoughts to social media using the hashtag #ShineStrong.

As part of the campaign, the company will be supporting the American Association of University Women Campus Action Project grants. The grants will provide up to $5,000 in funding for 12 different student projects that aim to fight gender stereotypes and bias.

Past Campus Action Projects have addressed the gender wage gap, sexual harassment in schools and the lack of women entering the science and math fields, according to the association.
