TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 150 points in late-morning trading, despite strength in the energy sector as the price of oil climbed. The November crude oil contract was up US$3.62 at US$95.78 per barrel. The move came as the S&P/TSX composite index was down 167.03 points at 35,584.40. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 347.74 points at 51,163.85. The S&P 500 index was down 36.53 points at 7,669.50, while the Nasdaq composite was down 207.19 points at 26,728.85. The Canadian dollar traded for 70.71 cents US compared with 70.94 cents US on Wednesday.
