A Waterloo woman is more than $300,000 richer, thanks to a local community draw. Marilyn Williams is August’s winner for the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) Auxiliary 50/50 draw. When she got the long-distance call, she tells CTV News she didn’t pick it up at first, since she usually leaves a long-distance call to voicemail. RVH called back a second time and this time, she said she could see it was the hospital calling but was still skeptical. “I said, ‘oh, is this a scam?’” Williams recalls. When she learned it was a real call telling her she did indeed win the jackpot, she said she was in shock and couldn’t believe it. Williams plans to donate the money to “whoever needs a hand,” including the Humane Society. She also plans on sharing it with her family - two daughters, two sons-in-law, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Williams says she chose to support the RVH 50/50 draw because she knows where the money is going. After having health complications about a year ago, she began to purchase tickets for the draw. She said she’s spent a total of around $50 on tickets so far. Williams is bringing home a total of $325,678. Half of ticket sales proceeds will go towards the purchase of a new MRI machine.
