Two suspects were arrested within minutes of a reported theft at Metrotown mall, where Mounties say they recovered hundreds of dollars’ worth of stolen sunglasses. In a news release Wednesday, Burnaby RCMP said officers were conducting proactive patrols at the mall just before 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 20 when they were alerted to a theft at a store. Officers were able to arrest a man within two minutes of receiving the report, Mounties said. A second suspect, a woman, was arrested about four minutes later. Investigators said they recovered $2,400 worth of stolen sunglasses and returned them to the retailer. “Retail theft negatively impacts businesses, employees, and customers. To those who are committing these types of crimes in Burnaby, know that we will find you and arrest you,” said Sgt. Neil Jones in the release. “We want everyone in our community to feel safe, and our team will continue to take steps to prevent and interrupt retail crime.” Mounties said one of the suspects was initially kept in custody on an unrelated Vancouver warrant. Both have since been released pending a future court appearance.
