Two months since City of Barrie’s Significant Weather Event: Where are we at?

With Saturday being the two-month mark since the City of Barrie declared a Significant Weather Event, City officials are providing updates on its snow-clearing efforts.

The City has received 378 centimetres of snow, the equivalent of about 12 feet between Nov. 1 and Feb. 24, according to Scott Lamantia with the City of Barrie.

He says crews have cleared snowbanks from over 250 kilometres of road between Jan. 4 and Feb. 20.

Snow-lifting crews continue to work overnight to remove snowbanks from the smaller roads, as they focus on narrow curb lanes and on-street cycling lanes.

Crews are also removing snow from sightlines at main intersections to provide a better view for both drivers and pedestrians.

Lamantia says the Significant Weather Event can’t be lifted until all of the narrowed roads and cycling lanes have been cleared.

The warmer weather and sun on Friday will help to melt some snow, making it a little easier on the plows.

According to the City, crews will head out to residential areas Friday night and clear away snow and slush.
