Two men busted on weapons and stolen tools charges in Grey Highlands

Two young men from Grey Highlands were busted after police uncovered a cache of stolen goods and weapons.

Last summer, half-a-dozen homes and businesses in Meaford, Grey Highlands and Southgate Township were broken into and had tools and machinery taken.

Early Tuesday morning, Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an incident at a business on Bell Circle in Dundalk.

Police located suspected stolen property and quickly sealed off the location and called in the OPP’s Community Street Crime Unit.

A second location, a building on the 7th Line of Meaford, was also identified as being accessible to the suspects.

While police were securing the scene in Dundalk, a suspect arrived and was arrested on the spot.

At a business on Bell Circle in Dundalk:

• Police seized a significant quantity of stolen power tools, chainsaws, and a .22 calibre semi‑automatic rifle.

At a building on the 7th Line in Meaford:

• Police seized additional stolen property including power tools, chainsaws, and a welder.

In total, police recovered property with an estimated value of approximately $43,000.

Most of the recovered items have since been linked to their rightful owners, who have been identified and contacted.

A 19-year-old man from Grey Highlands was charged with:

• Careless storage of a firearm
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
• Three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

He was held for a bail hearing on Wednesday in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound and was released on a court order.

An 18-year-old Grey Highlands man was arrested and charged with:

• Careless storage of a firearm
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
• Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

He was held for a bail hearing on Friday in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

The investigation remains ongoing.
