The Beer Store closed its 299 Blake Street location in Barrie on Sunday. This closure is one of many modernization efforts by the company, which will see a list of retail stores shut down right across the province. “We know this is difficult news for consumers, recyclers, and our employees,” stated Ozzie Ahmed, vice president of retail in an official release. The decision to close the Barrie location comes as The Beer Store adapts to changes in the Ontario marketplace and adjusts its operations. Officials say they’re committed to helping affected employees through this shift. Starting on Jan. 1, 2026, all grocery stores that sell and carry alcohol will be required to accept empty bottle returns and refund customer deposits. The Blake Street location is one of seven slated to close its doors this month.
