Chatham-Kent Public Library will host a three-person panel next week focused on immigration, migrant experiences and building welcoming communities in Canada. The event, part of Welcome Week, will take place Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Chatham Branch at 120 Queen St. The panel will feature Rena Namago, a refugee and migrant rights policy officer with Citizens for Public Justice and a contributor to the book “A Renewed Canadian Welcome: Eleven Visions from Migrants and Advocates”. Gabriel Allahdua, a former migrant farm worker, organizer and award-winning author. Also, Dr. Vasanthi Venkatesh of the University of Windsor. The event is free and open to the public. “Libraries play an important role in helping people connect with their community,” said Erin Auger, manager of public services at Chatham-Kent Public Library. “Everyone is welcome at their local library branch.” Welcome Week is an opportunity to celebrate the people, experiences and perspectives that strengthen communities across Canada.
