Country heavyweights Rascal Flatts closed out Boots and Hearts with a lightning finish. Band members Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney were bursts of energy throughout the entire set, joking around with the crowd in between songs, getting real about when life gets you down and moving all around the stage, basically non-stop. LeVox was certainly getting a workout, addressing the crowd multiple times during the show. The group made it clear that it “Still Feels Good” after 26 years as a band. It’s apparent the guys seem to have just as much fun now as they did back then, joking around with one another and the audience. The set was filled with hits from the past 26 years including “Mayberry,” “Stand,” “My Wish, “Fast Cars and Freedom” and “What Hurts the Most.” While they played for just over an hour, the crowd demanded an encore which included “Summer Nights,”—fitting for the moment—and their cover of Canadian Tom Chochrane’s “Life is a Highway.” “We love you Canada!” the guys shouted to the crowd, which echoed in loud cheering. “Lots has changed over the last 26 years, but one thing hasn’t,” the guys said. “We have the best fans in the whole world!” Le Vox showcased his classic ornamentation, where he embellishes several notes in the songs. Often times, handing the mic off to the crowd so they could fill in the lyrics while LeVox wiped the sweat off his brow, Rascal Flatts are sure to be sticking around for another 26 years. Tucker Wetmore warmed up the crowd before Rascal Flatts. He also shared his love for Canada. 2015 Emerging Artist Showcase winners James Barker Band took to the main stage as well, getting the crowd singing along to their many radio hits like “Lawn Chair Lazy.” Performing over on the Front Porch stage was B.C. native Mitch Zorn, who will be back in town next month to perform at the Troubadour Summer Concert Series in downtown Barrie.
