Blowing snow to blanket the region, according to Environment Canada

With a yellow blowing snow advisory and cold warning in place for much of Simcoe County and Muskoka, Environment Canada is alerting of blowing snow Friday evening.

The cold and blowing snow will stick around throughout Saturday as well, with the region expecting quite an accumulation of snow due to these quick squalls.

Snow is slated to blanket the region with sudden bursts of heavy snow and snow squalls due to high, northwesterly winds gusting up to 80 kilometres per hour, according to the national weather centre.

Blowing snow will blast into the region, stemming from a sharp cold front moving in a southeast direction from the Arctic.

With the snow blowing around, will also come a severe drop in temperatures with windchills in the minus 30s resulting in the risk of frostbite.

Environment Canada says there could be brief periods of near zero visibility on the roads.

Many parts of Central Ontario were under a yellow snow squall warning for Friday evening but has since been lifted by the national weather centre.

The region can expect heavy snowfall creating hazardous travel conditions.
