Severe thunderstorm warning in effect, says Environment Canada

After days of sweltering heat, parts of Ontario are bracing for a shift in weather.

At 7 p.m., on Friday, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for areas across Simcoe County and Muskoka.

The national weather agency says meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Noting that severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

“If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” Environment Canada stated.

Strong winds could down trees, damage buildings, and overturn vehicles. Residents are reminded to continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.

With sunny skies on the horizon, the weekend seems promising.

Saturday will see cloudy skies with a 40 per cent chance of morning showers. Mainly cloudy into the evening with fog patches developing through the night time.
