Short outage in south Barrie left 3,000 residents without power

Crew were dispatched at 2 p.m. to 2,983 homes and businesses in Barrie’s south end.

Nearly 3,000 residents in south Barrie were temporarily left without power after an outage on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Alectra Utilities, the outage occurred at 12:37 p.m. and impacted 3,010 customers, but by 1 p.m., only 27 customers remained without power.

An outage map on the company’s website showed the impacted area stretched from just south of Tiffin Street to Lockhart Road and from as far west as Mapleview Drive at Essa Road to Mapleview Drive just east of Huronia Road.

The company says the cause of the outage was “equipment failure” and that full power for the remaining 27 customers is expected to be restored between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
