Several ski resorts forced to close due to significant rainfall

Severe weather forced several ski resorts in Simcoe County to shut down for the day.

Poor ski conditions due to wet weather have forced several ski resorts in the Simcoe County region to shut down for the day on Wednesday including Snow Valley Resort, Mount St. Louis Moonstone and Horseshoe Valley Resort.

Snow Valley stated in its operations update on the website that due to a combination of warm weather along with freezing rain and rain.

The resort said the team is working hard to manage it but had to make the difficult decision to close but that it plans to reopen Thursday.

Mount St. Louis also cited the freezing rain as a factor in its decision to close for skiing and snowboarding. The resort said it’s seen 15 millimetres of freezing rain.

Horseshoe Valley said its alpine ski lifts, snow tubing, cross country skiing, fat biking and snowshoeing trails are closed due to forecasted heavy rain and ice conditions, but is hoping to reopen on Thursday.

Blue Mountain said operations had some delays in the morning but the resort remains open with 21 of its 43 hills available for skiing.
