Road rage incident results in several charges: Police

An Essa Twp. Man, 46, is facing several charges after what police say was a road rage incident in Barrie’s west end.

Barrie police say on Feb. 20 they got a report of a woman driving west on Dunlop Street West when a pickup truck merged from the Highway 400 north off-ramp without signalling as it began driving dangerously and erratically.

Investigators say in video footage Barrie police obtained, it showed the truck merging without signalling, cutting off the woman, stopping in the lane, accelerating to stop her from changing lanes and followed too closely. Police say the video also showed the truck turning in a way that could have turned into a serious crash with oncoming traffic.

While there was no crash or injuries reported, officers say they identified the driver of the truck and charged him with dangerous operation along with failure to signal, failure to yield, unnecessary slow driving and following too closely.

Barrie police are reminding drivers that aggressive and dangerous driving puts everyone at risk.

Anyone who witnesses road rage is encouraged to report it to police and provide video evidence if possible.
