Ride the bus for just a toonie

Standard adult fares are dropping to two dollars among other more affordable changes.

During a time when many services tend to increase prices, Orillia Transit is doing the opposite.

To kickstart 2026, it will cost residents just a toonie to take the bus.

For those taking transit regularly, the service is offering a dollar a day option on the 30-day cOnnect pass for 30 dollars, or there’s the 7-day cOnnect pass for 10 dollars. The new fares will apply to both conventional and specialized services.

“Putting people first is the foundation of this initiative,” said Don McIsaac, Mayor of the City of Orillia. “Affordable transit means more opportunity, more mobility, and a stronger, more connected community. This pilot program reinforces our commitment to making Orillia more inclusive and accessible by ensuring that safe, affordable transit is within reach for all.”

The move is a 15-month pilot project that began Jan. 1, 2026 and will continue until March 31, 2027.

Citing affordability and accessibility, the project is also in line with the City of Orillia’s climate goals. More people using public transit leads to a reduced need to drive personal vehicles, therefore reducing emissions and contributing to a greener and cleaner environment.

Transit passes can be purchased online or in person at the Orillia City Centre of Orillia Public Library.
