A man was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre with stab wounds in Midland on Friday, said Ornge to CTV News. Ontario Provincial Police said officers were called to the area of Hugel Avenue and Elizabeth Street shortly after 2:30 a.m. for a reported assault. The man was initially rushed to a local hospital before being airlifted to Toronto. Ornge confirmed it transported one patient suffering from critical stab wounds. Midland Fire crews say they were dispatched to the scene at 2:51 a.m. Fire officials said OPP officers were already on scene treating the injured man when crews arrived. Just after 5 a.m., police warned residents over social media to expect an increased police presence in the area while officers investigated. Portions of King Street, Bourgeois Lane and First Street near Hugel Avenue and Elizabeth Street were closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Police said the incident is believed to be isolated and there is no threat to public safety. No suspect information has been released. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact OPP. By 9 a.m., police said the investigation had concluded, road closures were lifted and officers had resumed regular patrols.
