Police arrest man armed with hunting knife and hatchet downtown Barrie

Barrie police said one of their officers arrested an armed Barrie man, 28, while out on patrol in the city’s downtown on Sunday morning.

Police said the officer identified the man as having an active warrant. When the man noticed the officer, he tried to avoid police by ducking behind a building and keeping his head down, according to authorities.

According to police, the officer caught up to the man and when trying to arrest him, he resisted. Police said the officer managed to restrain him and take him into custody, which was when the officer noticed the man had a large hunting knife and a hatchet on him that were being covered up by his clothing.

The man is facing multiple charges including resisting arrest, carrying concealed weapons, failure to comply with a release order and failure to comply with a probation order.
