Police say a bridge dedicated to animals loved and lost has been heavily damaged. The Rainbow Bridge Pet Memorial in Gravenhurst, a place where the community honours beloved pets, has been the target of recent vandalism. According to police, shortly after midnight on Wednesday, a group of five young people walked onto the boardwalk at the Gravenhurst Wharf and caused significant damage to the bridge. The group allegedly tore down two banner-style signs, a placard that was attached to the railing and another nearby sign and threw them all into the water. Investigators say the suspects were three men and two women. They say the first man was wearing blue jeans, a dark shirt, a large chain around his neck and a backwards hat. The second man had dark hair and was wearing work boots, brown pants and a dark shirt. The third man had very, short dark hair and was wearing white shoes, dark sweat pants and a grey, long-sleeve shirt. One woman had long, dark hair and was wearing glasses, dark jeans, white shoes and a dark shirt. The other woman had long, light brown hair and was wearing blue jeans and a sheer, see-through top. Police are asking anyone who may have any information about the incident to come forward to Bracebridge OPP. The Gravenhurst Lions Club marked the official opening of the bridge in the spring.
