High school students across Simcoe County and Muskoka could be suspended from school next week if they aren’t up-to-date on their vaccinations. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit issued another reminder to students and parents on Monday about its plans to enforce suspension orders for Grade 11 and 12 students with incomplete vaccination records. The health unit reports there are over 2,700 students who still need to provide proof of vaccination. To avoid suspension, students can get vaccinated at a clinic or through their family doctor and then report their shots to the health unit. “Having up-to-date immunizations helps to ensure that students have the best protection against serious vaccine preventable diseases, reduces the risk of outbreaks in schools, and allows the health unit to act quickly to prevent and control outbreaks,” health officials stated in a Monday release. The health unit is also offering free drop-in clinics at several locations to help facilitate getting students up-to-date.
