Calgary has the potential to hit its warmest day of the year over the August long weekend. So far, the warmest day of the year for the city was on July 18 when a high temperature of 33C was registered by Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather station at the Calgary International Airport. A broad ridge of high pressure will envelop much of Western Canada for the next several days, hitting its peak on Saturday where Calgary is forecast to reach a high of 34C. However, right after this peak, the ridge will weaken quickly as a low pressure system that has been patiently waiting above the Pacific West Coast finally moves into Alberta on Saturday night and into Sunday. This will noticeably drop our temperatures on Sunday back into the low twenties. This low also brings the potential for some scattered showers and stronger westerly winds, but models are not suggesting anything severe for the Calgary area at this point, just a nice cool-down after all this heat! As for today, Calgary will be at the high end of the seasonal range with a mainly sunny sky and a UV index of 7 or high.
