OPP ‘Operation Impact’ nabs speeding CMV, improperly loaded trailer

As the OPP continues its ‘Operation Impact’ over the Thanksgiving long weekend, Caledon OPP made an example out of two drivers who were pulled over by detachment officers.

The first was a commercial vehicle driver, who was charged for allegedly travelling 31 kilometres per hour over the speed limit in a posted 60 zone.

The second was a driver who appeared to be hauling a tractor. They were charged for allegedly hauling an insecure load, not having brake lights or turn signals, failing to surrender a permit for a trailer, and failing to surrender an insurance card.

According to the OPP, Thanksgiving has been the deadliest long weekend on OPP-patrolled roads in recent years, with 54 recorded deaths over the past last decade prior to Saturday.

The OPP is joining police services across the county this weekend with ‘Operation Impact,’ an initiative to clamp down on the ‘big four’ leading causes of death on Ontario roads:

• Speeding/aggressive driving
• Distracted driving
• Impaired driving
• Improper seatbelt use
