Two motorists are facing stunt driving charges after they were nabbed by police just hours apart from each other. South Simcoe police say both alleged speeding incidents happened along Yonge Street in Innisfil on Tuesday. Officers reported that one driver was caught travelling at 133 kilometres per hour, while the other was recorded at 138 km/h, both in an 80 km/h zone. Police charged a 74-year-old man from Woodbridge and a 57-year-old woman from Innisfil. Both licences were suspended for 30 days and their vehicles were impounded for 14. Police say this highlights the ongoing dangers of excessive speed on local roads. “Slow down, follow speed limits and help keep our roads safe,” said officers in a stern Thursday social media post. “No destination is worth risking your life or the lives of others.” According to the Ontario government, anyone involved in stunt driving or street racing, can face an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension, an immediate 14-day vehicle impoundment, a minimum fine of $2,000, a maximum fine of $10,000 and six demerit points. Drivers could also risk a post-conviction licence suspension that lasts a minimum of one year and up to three years for their first conviction, plus other potential penalties for later convictions.
