New traffic-calming policy could tackle speeding concerns in this community

If speeding has been an issue in your neighbourhood, Ramara might have a solution.

Township council just approved a new “Traffic Calming Policy,” helping residents address speeding and other traffic-related concerns in their community.

Approved at the Monday meeting, the policy which is now in place reviews requests using technical traffic data, community feedback and engineering best practices.

“Road safety is important to our residents and to council,” said Mayor Basil Clarke. “This new policy provides a transparent process for evaluating traffic concerns while ensuring decisions are based on objective criteria and the needs of the community.”

It applies to eligible local and collector roads in Ramara’s settlement areas and shoreline residential communities.

The town says requests will be evaluated based on road conditions, traffic patterns and neighbourhood feedback before being considered in the annual budget.

Not every request will result in traffic-quieting measures.

“Having a consistent policy allows the township to evaluate requests using the same criteria across the community,” said Laura Pye, general manager of Development and Infrastructure. “It provides a balanced approach that considers community concerns alongside technical data, road design, emergency access and available funding.”
