Mariposa School of Skating Summer Homick and Nicholas Buelow set for national stage

Summer Homick and Nicholas Buelow from Mariposa School of Skating have been chosen by Skate Canada to compete on the international stage.

Some local flair will be found on this year’s world junior team as Summer Homick and Nicholas Buelow were selected to represent Canada by Skate Canada to compete on the international stage.

The selection comes as the two skaters have had an impressive 2026 season including a silver medal finish at the 2026 Canadian National Skating Championships.

Homick said although ice dancing can be difficult she is ready for the challenge.

“The last two years I’ve been very new to ice dancing, but I feel like we have a great support system behind us, and getting here today has been obviously difficult,” said Homick. But when you have a team that helps you, it it makes it go by (easier)."

Buelow added the two skaters motivate each other to be the best they can be.

“It takes a lot of just mutual respect, I think me and Summer both have a lot of respect for the work that we both bring to the table in this partnership,” said Buelow. “And it takes a lot of strength as well to keep showing up every day, even if maybe there’s a day where you’re not quite so sure if you want to come in that day, but you still show up and you put in that work every day.”

The Mariposa team will represent Canada first in Oberstdorf, Germany at the Bavarian Open and next in Tallinnm, Estonia for the World Junior Championships March 3 to 8.
