Police say officers arrested a man attempting to purchase a $110,000 pickup truck from an Adjala-Tosorontio dealership with fraudulent identification. Provincial police received the call on Friday from staff at the Ernie Dean Chevrolet Dealership about a suspicious purchase done over the phone for a new 2025 GMC Sierra pickup truck. The suspect reportedly supplied the dealership with insurance, a void cheque and a driver’s licence, and told staff he was the vice principal of a Hamilton school. Feeling uneasy about the situation, the dealership called the school to congratulate the buyer on his new vehicle, but quickly found out the school’s vice principal had no idea about any such purchase. That’s when the police were contacted, and officers jumped into action to intercept when the suspect arrived to pick up the vehicle. A 39-year-old man from Ottawa was arrested and charged with fraud, identity theft offences, and forgery. Police say the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information on the case to contact the Nottawasaga OPP or Crime Stoppers.
