Man, 18, facing multiple charges for driving impaired

Owen Sound police have charged an 18-year-old Owen Sound man with impaired driving along with two Highway Traffic Act charges due to being underage.

On Dec. 20 in the early morning, police said they responded to a call from someone reporting a suspected impaired driver.

Police said they found the vehicle in question driving through a residential neighbourhood in downtown Owen Sound. According to officers, they pulled over the vehicle, determining the man had been drinking alcohol. Police said when they conducted a roadside breath test, it found he was over the legal limit.

Authorities said after more testing by a qualified breath technician, they charged the man with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with an alcohol level over 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres.

Due to the man being under 19 years old, he was also charged with novice driver and young driver above zero blood alcohol concentration.

Police said the man’s driver’s licence has been taken away for 90 days and the vehicle he was driving has been impounded for seven days.

The man is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Owen Sound police are reminding the public to continue to call 911 if they come across a suspected impaired driver.
