Lost budgie flies into kindergarten classroom

A lost budgie somehow found its way into a kindergarten classroom at St. Noel Chabanel Catholic School in Wasaga Beach in early January.

The bird was flying around the classroom and landed on one little girl’s head twice, according to the school’s Facebook page. After the teacher recognized it was an escaped pet, she brought it into the vice-principal’s office where a birding expert determined it was a female.

In a series of Facebook posts, the school attempted to locate the owner of the bird and eventually had success, but until then, she was in good hands. The school provided the feathered friend a temporary home in the office where she was given some freedom to explore. She was pictured perched on the fingers of staff, on top of a computer monitor and on the lid of a travel mug.

According to the Facebook page, after having visited every class for show-and-tell, she found the perfect perch:

“During her adventure, she claimed a cozy spot on the wall clock and eventually decided Mrs. Gorr’s head was the best perch of all.”

The kids assigned her the role of school mascot and referred to her as a peace bird. They called her Stormy.

Alas, it was time to return her to her rightful owners. Gorr said they found the bird’s owners in the coming days. The budgie’s real name was Snow.

“While we are definitely sad to see her go, our hearts are full knowing she’s back with her family where she belongs,” one Facebook post read.
