If you need an extension on your speeding ticket payment, you may be in luck.

Starting Wednesday, Barrie drivers who are caught going over the speed limit where an Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) camera is operating will now face a “Penalty Order.” This order will be processed through the city’s Administrative Penalty System.

Under the new system, the driver can dispute or request an appeal of the penalty with a screening officer.

Screening officers may confirm or cancel the administrative penalty, reduce the amount of the administrative penalty or grant additional time to pay your unlucky ticket.

Administrative penalties will still be sent in the mail. In the event of a Canada Post labour disruption, penalty orders may be delivered by an alternate courier says the city.

The ASE cameras work to capture a picture of the licence plates of vehicles exceeding the posted limit. Current ASE tickets do not go on a person’s driving record and demerit points are not issued. All appeals and extensions will be conducted electronically and can be found here.

The city’s two photo radar cameras are now located on Dean Avenue near La Source Elementary School and Marsellus Drive near St. Bernadette Elementary School. They were previously located on Mapleton Avenue near St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School and on Veterans Drive near Trillium Woods Elementary School.

This is a change from the current system issued through “Offence Notices,” which are processed by the Provincial Offences Court system.
