Simcoe County police departments are reacting to a collision on Tuesday that killed a constable-in-training (CIT). According to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), two of its CITs were travelling to the Ontario Police College when they got into a collision involving a transport truck in Malahide Township. RELATED: Aylmer Ont. crash: Durham police trainee killed, another critical The collision happened at 11:20 a.m. and resulted in the death of CIT Tyrone Magbitang, 27, and sent a second CIT to hospital in life-threatening condition. Barrie Police “We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the lost constable. We’re also keeping the second constable in hospital in our thoughts and wish them a full recovery,” Barrie Police said in a statement shared on social media. “We stand with our partners at Durham Regional Police Service and everyone affected by this tragedy,” the statement read. South Simcoe Police “Police in training represent the future of our profession,” South Simcoe Police said in a statement shared on social media. “They begin their journey with a commitment to serve their communities with courage, integrity and honour. The loss of a constable in training at the very start of that journey is extremely heartbreaking,” the police department said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, classmates, instructors and all members of the Durham Regional Police Service. We also keep the injured constable in training, their loved ones and colleagues in our thoughts and prayers,” the statement read.
